It Doesn't Matter---

You know I have hunted for the past 32 years now and there is always some young person that Will come up to me and say "Why do you hunt?" and as many of you I'm sure will agree it's strictly for the pleasure of being in the woods by yourself taking in all God's creatures and the great and beautiful scenery that he has bestowed upon us on this great planet we call earth. You don't have to be a hunter to enjoy all these things, all you have to do is get off the couch, get out of the house and go into the woods, set down and just be quite for just a minute then you too can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of nature at its best. It doesn't matter what type work needs to be done or who you have with you, just go into the woods and live life again as it should be to the fullest. It doesn't matter what color you are, where you were born( city or country)or whether you think it's not your thing just give it a try one time and I bet you'll be hooked for life to at least schedule one outting a year going into the woods somewhere just to relax and enjoy nature and relieve your stress levels and renew your mind and body. So the next time any of you get asked
'Why do you hunt?' reply with this simple answer ' It doesn't matter all that matters is that I enjoy my time in the woods". It doesn't matter if your a hunter, photographer, bird watcher, or animal lover for your sake try this just once.

Amen to that! My wife didn't hunt when I first met her and after her first evening sitting the still woods she was hooked. Had nothing to do with the hunt. It had to do with the surroundings

I hunt and fish because I love being out with nature. Each evening, my Wife and I sit out on or back porch and watch the Deer and Birds. Last night I even saw some Fire Flies. It would be wonderful if they made a comeback!

Arthur: Its great that you have a wife that supports your hunting and even better that she enjoys it as much as you do. Most women in todays socieity hate the idea of hunting season coming around cause it takes away from their quality time with their husbands and they dont like killing animals or going into the woods .Maybe you can get her into posting about her experiences of her own hunts.

Hi Jon; You know Jon its funny you bring up the fire flies cause thats one thing nobody really notices any more. Your right though they are reducing in numbers and as a matter of fact there is a reseach being done on cancer using fire flies as part of the cure.My paper has advertised an ad several times wanting to pay for fire flies for reseach. This could have something to do with the reduced numbers of fire flies you've noticed. Is'nt it nice to spend quality time with your wife watching nature?

I agree completely with this post. I don't hunt or shoot yet, but I've found that some of the most peaceful times I've ever had have been sitting quietly in the woods or on the shore of a lake and just watching and listening to nature.

There's just a certain sort of peace in the woods that you can't find anywhere else.

Thanks Kristine for your very kind and imformative words of wisdom and letting other readers know that there are woman out there that dont hunt yet but still enjoy nature to its fullest and find it very relaxing. I hope that you can enjoy nature for many years to come and so may your children as they grow old also.

What a great comback!

Great post also. I fear many of our young are being left home with video games and computers rather than being taken to the woods.

Part of that I believe is the high divorce rate, the other part is the laziness of some parents. It's easier to shove a video and pizza in front of the kids than to interact with them outdoors.

Hi Don: your right I have kids wanting to go hunting with me but they need their hunter certification and I dont have time to take them and their parents wont take them and thats sad. This happens alot around my hometown and it all comes down to the parents/ guardians just dont want to take the time to help their children with what I call education of the future.

I hunt because I love and appreciate life

Darrell; Hunting is more than a way to appreciate life it's a way to a healthier life. It promotes our health by providing us with leaner meat than we can get in the grocery store and it gives us a relaxing feeling and stress relieve while we are out there in the woods. Next time your in the woods try observing nature more and you'll see part of what I'm talking about.

All I have to say is if you continue to hunt ant take from "Gods" beautiful creatures, there will be nothing but DEAD silence to listen to.

Dear Anonymous: This is why we have seasons and limits on our wild game,so this kind of thing doesn't happen and our heritage lives on for generations to come. I think what your talking about is poaching and these are the people we need to stop. Though with no real signature for all I know you could be one of them.
