Opening Seasons

Hunting season has finally gotten here again and with all the work I still have to do around here I just haven't had time to go yet. Dove season has opened labor day weekend and squirrel season opened already too but I more interested in the opening day of whitetail archery season which I'm hoping for a good weekend and don't plan on doing anything that weekend except hunting. It opens September 22,07 and I'm planning on putting everything on hold that I can just for hunting. I may show up here sometime during the day to update everyone on how I'm doing with my hunting over the weekend but don't think I'm going to make any special trip home just to update you folks when there's whitetail to be taken running everywhere in the hills of Tennessee. Anyway thanks for stopping by for the visit and I'll see you all soon. Oh yeah I forgot to show you I got my deerstand up,Redneck style.

Awesome deer stand pic. Keep us updated on how you do. I can't wait for our opener here either which is Oct. 1st. I will out Sep 22-23 as well, but without a weapon. My cousin will be participating in the youth hunt and I'll be playing guide.

Kevin; I'll try my best to keep everyone up to date and get some photos posted as for the deer stand photo; this is one that I found on the internet and I thought I would use it to catch everyone's eye and for a little humor. I 've got others that are just as good if I can work them in to some of my articles. Thanks for the visit and good luck on your trip and stay safe.

Arthur; our youth hunts are set up just after the fisrt bow season and a second at the end of all the hunts and I am supposed to take two of my grandchildren and another that is considered as a grandchild as well. Good luck this year and I look forward to viewing some photos of your hunting adventures. Hope your cousin gets a nice one as well. The deer stand is from the internet and just for humor as an eye catcher.

Good luck! Neat Deer stand. We have one that is a converted porta-potty. I think I'll do a post on it before our Deer season opens.

don't be giving my secret deer stand secrets away!

Jon; If those porta-potties are deer stands then I have them all over where I work but I don't find many deer tracks around the area. Maybe they should look to relocate them cause I've never heard a shot yet either.

Editor; I thought I had sent those plans to you some 30 years ago didn't I ? well anyway now I'm working on one that works like a gyro in all directions, I just hope it works right.

Funny pics. I love 'em.

One of our most successful stands that we used for years was an old road grader that a farmer had pulled off to the edge of the woods next to a soybean/peanut field.

There was a trail coming down the ridge and across a branch and the deer crossed right in front of the grader as they entered the field.

The deer never paid attention to it because as far as they were concerned, it was part of the landscape. It was there for years and probably still is.

Another great stand we had was an old combine parked out in the middle of a Pecan orchard. Old farm equipment parked and left to rust can be a great place to hunt from!

We learned early on to use ear plugs if we were going to shoot from the cabs!

Hi Don; Great to hear from you again and your right just about anything left setting around in the field or woods can be used for a stand or blind. A hunting buddy of mine uses an old school bus and has taken many a good buck from it over the past 30+ years that I've known him. The ear plugs are a requirement when shooting from cabs but should be used anytime your shooting to save your hearing.
