Two Bad Weekends in a Row.
This weekend has turned out to be a big bust for me as all my plans have been overturned by some misfortune. I had planned on going fishing before the final day our licenses run out but the weather just got really messy. I planned on getting out and starting a clean-up routine around my house but there again that darn weather just didn't cooperate. About the only few things I was able to accomplish was going to town for some new clothes, watching the television set ( most of the day ) and visiting a few websites to give my support to my fellow bloggers ( which was the best part of my rainy weekend ). Next weekend I have to be at my job and it's daylight savings time on Sunday ( March 8, 2009 )and I have to make a trip to Alabama on Friday, so no work around home that weekend. As for the following weekend I'll just have to wait and see how things pan out by then. Last weekend I came down sick and ended up going to the hospital on Sunday morning only to find out that I have Chronic Bronchitis and C.O.P.D. ( Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ) which I have been researching on the web. I've found out that it's worst than I thought it was and can even be fatal. I'm now in the process of having to give up my smoking habit whether I want to or not and when you go from 1 1/2 -2 packs a day for 24 years to 1-12 cigarettes a day with only will-power and a loving wife for support, I think I've done quiet well for my first week. Patches, gums and prescriptions are too costly for me at this time so I'll try the will to live as my savor along with the Grace of God. If I can give up the smoking habit it could add a few extra years to my life and allow me the time to possibly go on that hunting trip of a lifetime I've been wanting to take for so long now or maybe even a grand fishing trip to the ocean for big cobia's or tarpon. For now I'll settle for the extra time with my wife, reading and commenting on blogs, grandchildren and home life as it is now.

Stay strong my friend. I recently quit smokeless tobacco after 18 years and I have to say it is the greatest feeling to triumph over something that has such power. I owe my success to God everytime I almost gave up I would pray and read the bible and I not only quit dipping as we call it here in E. Tennessee but I also renewed my faith. Go figure. good luck and good hunting
your pal the Envirocapitalist
JUST DO IT A DAY AT A TIME OR ONE MOMENT AT A TIME.. MY SISTER RECENTLY QUIT AFTER 30 SOME YEARS..SHE WAS ON CHANTIX, WHICH SHE SAID WAS A BIG HELP. WHAT YOU SAVE BY NOT BUYING CIGARETTES WOULD EVENTUALLY PAY FOR THE PRESCRIPTION.. GOOD LUCK JOE TODD
RGD; Thanks for the words of support and for the visit. At present I'm down to 13 a day which I'll stay at for a week or so then cut it down more from there. I 've tried several times before to quit but stressful things would happen to prevent me from quitting.
Joe Todd; One day at a time is the way I'm attempting to do it right now and so far it seems to be working well for me. Idle time is where I find myself lighting up and thinking about things so I try to stay busy. If the weather ever breaks I've got plenty of work outside to keep busy at and that shouldn't be much longer. Thanks for the support and the visit.
Do keep trying to quit. It will be worth it. Just keep busy, that does help.
As for the COPD, there are medications that can help with that. Making sure you exercise and stay fit is a good thing to do too.
Kristine; I'm trying very hard this time to quit. It's hardest when I'm setting around watching television at night and after eating but I have gum for that which seems to help some. As for the COPD, I think it is in the early stages cause a cough and getting out of breath easily is the only syptomes I've noticed so far. Thanks for the visit and words of support.
I know several people who have struggled to quit smoking so I know what you are going through is hard - but you can do it, you have good reasons for wanting to quit - a wife, some grandchildren and the great outdoors to keep on enjoying!
Good luck - you can do it!
