Country life-Living The American Dream

Many of us take for granted that when we go to the woods we're out there for the purpose of taking wild game, but the truth of the matter is we're really out there for the peace and quite, the serenity and the relaxation and beauty of the woods and all it has to offer us. Most people in our world today don't even know that kind of feeling you get when your all alone in the woods and everything is quite around you and then it happens, a majestic buck steps out for just a moment to give you a glance of himself as if to say okay now you've seen me and I'm grand master of these woods. This is the kind of things we see and then when season comes around their sixth sense kicks in and they know it's hunting season again so they need to hide as best they can to survive. This is actually not the case, what really takes place is that due to the added pressure of hunters scouting the woods before the season the deer get scared off time and time again. This alerts the deer and the deer begin moving into new areas or thicker brush where they are harder to see and harder to hunt. Many of us hunters today don't think to use any kind of cover-up scent blocker when we go scouting and this is why we see deer while scouting( mainly by pure accident) but when hunting season comes along the big bucks have gone from the area and we usually don't see them again till after hunting season when the pressure has eased off and the human scent has left the woods they use as their home. Most city folks rarely talk about or even think about going to the woods for whatever reason, but there are a few city slickers who weren't always city slickers born and raised, they were born country and raised citified. Citified country folks are just having a hard time remembering their past and getting back to it as often as they would like. Then to there are those who just didn't like the country life and don't want to remember it.For my preference I choose to lead and live a country life full of all the wonders life has to offer me no matter how bad things get and I'll always remain a country boy for as long as God will allow me too.

I enjoyed reading this post and agree with you. For me being out in nature is like a day at the spa. It relaxes me and frees up my mind of garbage that has accumulated in modern civilization. When I come back from the outdoors I feel refreshed and ready to face world again. I believe in the physical and mental healing power nature has on people, after all nature is our origin, it’s part of who we are and we are part of it too.

I live in a city but I still consider my self a country boy since the town I live in is a rural american town in a state that only has 650,000 people.

Othmar; it's a shame we can't just live in the outdoors for all eternity but I guess someone has to pay the taxes for the rich and famous besides we'd probably get tired after about 120 years and decide to move to the big city for some r&r.

Goon: let me guess, all those people are in your town during the hunting season cjhasing your deer to right? well at least you can go visit Editor during hunting season to get away from all those people, oh thats right he already has a bunch up there though. Sorry but look on the bright side of things at least you can still hunt with your bow in the city, maybe from someones balcony or a low rooftop.

What a post. I sometimes get frustrated after back to back hunting season disappointments. Always I have to go back to just how it feels walking into the woods with my bow in hand and cherishing things like that that keeps me going again! Wouldn't trade any of it!

Arthur; glad you stopped by, I often find myself thinking about one of my old hunts during the off season jst after seeing a deer on the side of the road or in a field on the way to work and wishing it was hunting season already. keep those thoughts with you throughout life and remember them all as if they were just yesterday they happened.

After too many years with big companies and living in big cities, I retired to my roots - the country.

This evening, the wife and I sat on our porch, eating salsa and having an adult beverage and watched the Deer and the Hummingbirds. Couldn't do that in Houston!

I grew up in the country but now I live in the suburbs. I don't like it much and hope to move back to the country in a couple of years. Living in the country with no neighbors is my preference to living in the suburbs.
