Up Close And Personal?

Have you ever just sit and watched a deer come in to your stand and wonder how close he'll get before scenting you. Now I usually don't use any kind of scent blockers, I smoke while on stand and I move around a bit, all of which I know are bad things to do but check out the buck in the photo above and tell me what is wrong with this picture. I'll give you more information on the picture in my next post just to set the record straight and fill you in on him.

I don't think smoke (or fire) bothers deer & elk much at all.

We often huddled over a little fire while on stand in the Alleghenies, and in 20 years of elk hunting I've done the same. Several times I've hunted in a circle out from my fire and returned in an hour or two to see elk tracks within feet of it (elk are fond of walking in a hunter's backtrack to sneak off a ridge).

EcoRover; I've never given it much thought but have always heard that deer will avoid cigerette smoke as it's not a common smell they associate with in the woods.
